Patterns and Timing: Fu Yin, Fan Yin, Emptiness and Travel Star

Besides the useful god and its palace, special patterns reveal the state and rhythm of a matter. Learning them sharpens your reading.

1. Fu Yin: Standing Still

Fu Yin occurs when the useful god, Zhi Fu or Zhi Shi Men stays in its original palace or mirrors it. It means slow progress, repetition or stagnation. It favours consolidation, not major moves.

For a promotion question, Fu Yin may mean no change. For love, it may mean the relationship is stuck. For a missing-person question, the person may still be nearby.

2. Fan Yin: Change and Reversal

Fan Yin occurs when these symbols land in the opposite palace. It means change, reversal and instability. The outcome is likely to shift.

In job-change, relocation or breakup questions, Fan Yin often signals a change of result. In health questions, watch for recurring symptoms.

3. Emptiness: Power Not Yet Present

Emptiness is derived from the ten-day stem head. It means "the power has not yet arrived." A useful god in emptiness does not mean failure; it means the matter is still unclear.

When the emptiness is clashed open or filled, concrete progress usually follows.

4. Travel Star: Movement

The travel star represents movement, change and long journeys. When it moves, the matter progresses; when still, progress is slow.

Its palace often shows the direction or nature of development. For example, travel star in Qian 6 may relate to the northwest, long distance or authority.

5. Trapped and Controlled

A star or door entering its tomb is "trapped" — its power is suppressed. Being controlled means the palace element overcomes it. Both show environmental limits; wait for timing or seek external help.
